kukun kun kut - BS Super Mario Collection's 554 Mario Characters Best 5 554
At a point in the 2nd episode of BS Super Mario Collection, Yuuki Nae counts down the "Mario Character Best 5". I'm not entirely sure how this best 5 was decided - presumably a mail-in polling of the Satellaview base - but it's an interesting look into what Mario characters were popular before the era of Bowser Jr., Rosalina and Cappy.
The top five goes as follows:
5) Bowser (Koopa-daiou)
4) Bob-omb (Bomuhei)
3) Fireworks[!?] (Hanabi)
2) Koopa Troopa (Nokonoko)
1) Toad (Kinopio)
I can only presume Toad being number 1 is beause of the sheer amount of presence he had in the Satellaview's lifespan, being in the Wario's Woods releases, a playable character in the previous two BS Mario-related Soundlink games, and used as a mascot character for Satella-Q.
By the way, Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 music play at this part, giving off that "Not quite N64" effect yet again.
