So after checking PC Engine Fan Catalog I tried looking for standalone demos. My first tries were the ones based off Neogeo ports, but it seems most of them are very similar to the final retail game builds. Bummer!
So here's Advanced Variable Geo instead. Only Vs. COM is available, you can only pick from half the roster, and it goes right back to title screen at the end of a match. Interestingly, the attract demo occasionally shows CPU gameplay with the characters that are not available to play.
I would not be surprised if a faulty .cue file is to blame for some of the awkwardness with the music cuts.
